Anthony Lupo is a professor of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Lupo is a frequent speaker at Heartland Institute events, including a recurring role at their International Conference on Climate Change, where he has presented off and on since 2009. According to documents leaked in 2012, Lupo earns $750 a month from Heartland.

Lupo is one of the founding members of the group Climate Exit (Clexit), which is led by Christopher Monckton, a prominent climate change denier. Clexit’s purpose is to encourage world leaders to back out of the Paris Climate Accord.

Lupo signed on to the Cornwall Alliance’s open letter to US Attorneys General on climate change which states:

“unlike in the case of tobacco’s health risks, there are innumerable and enormous holes in the case (not for human contribution to global warming but) for manmade global warming dangerous enough to justify spending trillions of dollars reinventing the world’s energy system to mitigate it, particularly when competing use of those trillions might bring far greater benefit. And you, intelligent and learned all, are ignorant of those enormous holes.”

On the subject of climate change, Lupo has stated that:

“The Earth goes through phases of warming and cooling, and though all the computer models we have show that we are in a warming phase, there is no way to differentiate between a natural warming and one that is human-caused.”

Additionally, in a 2008 interview he said “I’ll concede that there may be a human component, but the question is, how much?”

Lupo has been nominated for the Science Advisory Board, an entity created in 1978 to provide, “independent advice and peer review on the scientific and technical aspects of environmental issues to the EPA’s Administrator.” According to reports, it is very likely that the Heartland Institute recommended Lupo for nomination.
